Retroreflectors are sometimes called corner cubes because the reflecting surfaces are three mutually perpendicular faces like the corner of a cube.
Any ray entering the effective aperture will be reflected back 180°and parallel to itself, regardless of the entrance angle.
Retroreflectors are ideal in applications where orientation is difficult or impossible to control.
